About Me

...for a healthy mind AND body!

Hello, I'm Simon. Born and raised in south London, I live in Croydon with my beautiful wife and two adorable children. I was educated via a combination of comprehensive and private schooling before going to the University of Kent at Canterbury to study Actuarial Science. On graduating, I immediately began working in the financial services sector where I held a number of analytical and managerial roles in pensions, reinsurance and investments.

During this time I developed a keen interest in understanding what motivates people and helping them to achieve the best of their abilities, whether this means challenging themselves mentally or physically.

Following 17 years of working in financial services I decided to make a complete career change from the world of finance to the world of education. This included becoming fully familiar with the requirements and challenges for children in education, from entrance into secondary schools to securing places on high demand university courses with the necessary A level results.

I currently teach mathematics at a range of levels and have experience of A level maths on both the old and new (post 2017) structure. I have also spent time preparing children for grammar and independent school entry exams at age 11, where my numerical background and a passion for problem solving is a huge asset. In addition, I have taught teens and young adults at an English Language school, specialising in employability skills and exam preparation.

During my time in education I wasn't interested in regular, physical exercise and during sports lessons could regularly be found sitting by the side of the field next to the asthmatics and kids with a letter from their Mum. In my 20s however, I started to get myself fit through a combination of exercise classes and martial arts but it’s running that has contributed the most. It can be a very social activity as well as being a good time for mental filing. Of course it also has a competitive element, whether that’s against yourself or against the next runner in front of you - there nearly always will be one!

I trained and qualified as an Event Group Endurance Coach having first qualified as a Coach in Running Fitness and Assistant Athletics Coach on my journey. (http://ucoach.com/qualifications/coach-education-and-pathway/coach-education-pathway-update-april-2015/).

Due to working with children, I am checked with the Disclosure and Barring Service. The most recent of these was in March 2017. I have also completed Safeguarding and Prevent training. Certificates for all of the above are available for viewing.

Please email me at: simon@heretoteach.co.uk with any specific questions you have or to discuss how I may be able to help you and/or your children.
